The Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutes (KATTI) games have officially kicked off at the Nyeri National Polytechnic, with a total of 2,772 competitors from across the country participating.
July 30, 2019, marked the beginning of the annual event, which will see teams from Mount Kenya, Coast, Nairobi, Rift Valley, Western, and special groups represented by national polytechnics compete for glory.
For the next three days, teams will battle it out for 110 trophies on offer, with the games being held at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (Dekuat), Kagumo Teachers Training College, and Nyeri National Polytechnic.
Initially planned for Rift Valley, the games were moved to Nyeri, with Rift Valley set to host next year's event.
According to KATTI national chairman David Mwangi, the event aims to nurture talents and identify and support students, with the government policy being to make every student feel loved and cared for.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mwangi said, 'What we seek to do with this event is to nature talents and as a government policy, we will continue to identify and nutrure talent. That is our plan and we want to make every student feel loved and cared for.'
