On July 30, 2019, Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari Ndung'u were arraigned in court, facing charges of corruption and embezzlement of millions of shillings from Kiambu county government coffers.

Waititu was charged alongside his wife and eight other suspects, including Kiambu County Chief Officer for Roads Lukas Wahinya and members of the Kiambu County Tender Evaluation Committee.

The charges against Waititu include conflict of interest for allegedly receiving Sh25 million from Testimony Enterprises Limited, a company awarded a Sh588 million tender by Kiambu County government for road upgrades.

Between July 2, 2018, and March 13, 2019, Waititu allegedly received Sh18 million from Testimony Enterprises Limited while serving as Director of Saika Two Estate Developers Ltd.

According to the charge sheet, Waititu received the amount 'while having reason to believe that the said amount was acquired from the Kiambu County Government through corrupt conduct.'

Waititu and his wife also faced a joint charge of dealing with suspect property, accused of receiving Sh7 million from Testimony Enterprises Limited through corrupt conduct.

During the arraignment, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
