On July 29, 2019, the National Assembly made a crucial decision to select PKF Kenya to audit the books of Auditor-General Edward Ouko, ending a four-year search for a firm to scrutinize the unaudited accounts.

PKF Kenya was chosen from a pool of seven firms that bid for the tender, with the firm scoring 87.36 in the technical and financial evaluation.

The appointment of PKF Kenya comes just a month before Auditor-General Edward Ouko's eight-year non-renewable term ends on August 27.

Article 226(4) of the Constitution requires the accounts of the Office of Auditor-General to be audited by a professionally qualified accountant appointed by the National Assembly.

Public Accounts Committee chairman Opiyo Wandayi recommended the approval of PKF Kenya's bid, citing the firm's high score and professional qualifications.

The Auditor-General's books of accounts have not been audited for the financial years 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17, and 2017/18.
