Kenyan Leaders Mourn Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso's Passing

On July 29, 2019, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso passed away at The Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with ovarian cancer. The 58-year-old governor was 58 years old.

Leaders from across the country have been sending their condolences to the family and friends of Governor Laboso. Raila Odinga, the ODM leader, eulogised her as a dedicated public servant, saying, "Joyce Laboso's death is a blow to our system of devolved government. She was a dedicated public servant."

Deputy President William Ruto was among the first leaders to visit the Lee Funeral Home where Governor Laboso died. He described her as a visionary leader who had close interests of her people at heart.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga also eulogised Laboso as a visionary leader, saying, "From her earlier days as a legislator, Dr Laboso's vibrant and aggressive nature propelled her against all odds to be among the first female governors."

Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi sent her condolences to the family, friends, and great people of Bomet, saying, "It’s such a sad day, particularly for women leaders who lost a great friend and one of the three female governors in Kenya."
