Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, a stalwart leader, has left us too soon. She was 58 years old.
On February 5, 2019, Governor Laboso addressed Women Leaders in Support of Building Bridges Initiative at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi, highlighting their proposals for the BBI trust force.
However, her health began to deteriorate, and she was hospitalized in the UK for treatment. Her condition remained undisclosed, but her deputy, Dr. Hillary Barchok, urged the nation to respect her privacy.
"The state of her health is strictly a family affair. We cannot speak for them. She should be given the support she needs," Dr. Barchok noted during a prayer function in the county.
Despite her illness, Governor Laboso received visits from notable figures, including NASA leader Raila Odinga, Ambassador Manoah Espisu, Chief Justice David Maraga, and Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, while she was undergoing treatment in Britain.
Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto also paid her a visit, showing the respect and admiration she commanded from her peers.
Tragically, Governor Laboso's condition took a turn for the worse, and she passed away at the Nairobi Hospital. Her death is a significant loss to the people of Bomet and the nation as a whole.
