On July 29, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made a somber revelation at the Lee Funeral, where Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso's death was announced.

According to Sonko, at least 60 serving Members of Parliament are currently battling cancer, a disease he described as 'serious'.

Just last week, Kibra MP Ken Okoth succumbed to colorectal cancer after a brave fight, following in the footsteps of Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim, who died of cancer after a prolonged battle.

Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze passed away in 2017 after fighting cancer for over a decade, and Juja MP Francis Munyua Waititu has openly spoken about his own cancer diagnosis.

Furthermore, dozens of Kenyans are traveling to India daily in search of cancer treatment, highlighting the disease's growing impact on the country.
