On Monday, July 29, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari Ndung'u spent the night in police custody, awaiting a ruling on their bail application.

The couple, alongside eight other suspects, appeared before Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi, facing charges related to a Ksh.588 million irregular tender.

Other accused persons include Lukas Wahinya, the County Chief Officer for Roads, five members of the Kiambu County Evaluation Committee, and two directors of Testimony Enterprises Limited.

According to the court, between July 2, 2018, and March 13, 2019, the governor received Ksh.25,624,500 from Testimony Enterprises Limited, a company that had been awarded contracts by the Kiambu County Government.

He allegedly received Ksh.18,410,500 through Saika Two Estate Developers Ltd and Ksh.7,214,000 through Bienvenue Delta Hotel, where the governor and his wife are also directors.

The accused denied all charges, with Lukas Wahinya facing abuse of office and the county evaluation committee members charged with wilful failure to comply with procurement laws.
