On 9 April 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta was sworn in as the 4th President of Kenya, succeeding Mwai Kibaki. In a recent event in Nairobi, organized by Master Card, he shared the motivations behind his presidential ambitions.
According to President Kenyatta, growing up in a household where his father was the country's president created an environment that inspired him to be like Jomo Kenyatta. He emphasized the importance of family and moral grounding in shaping one's ambitions.
President Kenyatta urged Kenyan parents to recreate the values that their parents had, which they have unfortunately failed to pass on to their children. He believes that this would help bring up a generation of Kenyans who have opportunities to become leaders, just like he did.
As the firstborn son of Kenya's founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, President Uhuru Kenyatta's presidency has been marked by significant appointments, including cabinet minister in the dockets of finance, local government, and deputy prime minister under the coalition government in 2008.
