On July 22, 2019, Kenya lost a visionary leader in Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, who succumbed to cancer at Nairobi Hospital.
As news of her passing spread, Kenyans took to social media to express their shock and sadness, with many condolence messages pouring in.
Among those who paid tribute to the late governor was Hon. JKT, who said, 'May her soul rest in peace. This is the more reason why we need an annual mandatory cancer test for every Kenyan for early treatment. It is shameful Kenyans are forced on useless things like huduma number than health issues like cancer.'
Others, like @SirEduh, expressed frustration at the loss of good-hearted leaders, saying, 'Why are the good hearted leaders dying @bobcollymore @kenokoth why can’t this corrupt one die instead. @LabosoJoyce R.I.P we will miss your leadership MamaLaboso.'
As the nation mourns the loss of Governor Laboso, many are calling for urgent action to curb the rise of cancer and affiliated lifestyle diseases, and improve the country's healthcare system.
