Published on July 29, 2019, a bizarre insurance deal has been gaining traction in the United States. The Saint Lawrence Agency in Altamonte Springs, Florida, offers "alien abduction policies" worth the equivalent of £8 million (Sh1 billion) in compensation.

More than 6,000 people have taken out these policies, which promise coverage for supernatural sites, such as Area 51. The policies come with a one-off fee of $24.95 (Sh2,594) for a paper copy or $19.95 (Sh2,074) for a digital copy.

However, there's a catch in the small print: the agency will only pay $1 (Sh103) per year over a 10 to 20-million-year period.

The surge in interest is attributed to a Facebook page that went viral, urging people to storm Area 51. The page proposes a meeting on September 20 at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction to coordinate a raid.

Mike St Lawrence, the owner of the firm, said: "If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Let’s see them aliens." He added that he doesn't want to rip people off and will only sell the policies to those who understand the tongue-in-cheek nature of the deal.

According to Fox News, "sarcasm coverage" is limited to only cover against family members who mock the abductee. Two people have submitted claims so far, with one even submitting a Polaroid photograph of the suspected aliens.

St Lawrence claimed that when he first started, most people thought the idea was absurd, but today, 50 percent of the people think it's a possibility.
