Published on July 29, 2019, Nakuru County has been working to upgrade its vocational training facilities to meet the needs of its growing population.
Nakuru Vocational Training Centre, one of the oldest technical and training centres in Nakuru County, has been facing an acute understaffing and lack of equipment.
However, in a bid to give the centre a facelift, the Governor Lee Kinyanjui administration bought equipment worth Sh20 million in the last financial year.
David Mwangi, the county director of vocational training, said the centre has been working round the clock to upgrade its training facilities.
Some 43 street children recently showed interest in joining the centre, which offers a range of courses including motor vehicle mechanics, fashion and design, and electrical installation.
Despite the efforts, Nakuru County's 28 vocational training centres still face a significant shortfall of 212 lecturers, with a teaching workforce of only 107.
