Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso has passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer.

According to reports, Laboso died on Monday at the Nairobi Hospital, just days after the death of Kibra MP Ken Okoth.

Laboso had been undergoing treatment in India and the United Kingdom before being transferred to Nairobi Hospital's ICU, where she was placed on full bed rest.

Her county office had restricted the number of visitors to allow her sufficient rest, citing the need for her to conserve energy.

Laboso had left the country on May 29 for the UK, where she stayed before being transferred to India for further treatment.

During her absence, Deputy Governor Hillary Barchok had been running the county's affairs, assisted by County Secretary Evalyne Rono.

The details of Laboso's illness were not made public, with the county describing it as a private matter.
