Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Secretary General David Ngugi has issued a stern warning to teams that will be caught cheating during the National Term Two Games, which kicked off on July 29, 2019, at Kisumu Boys and Kisumu Day schools in Kisumu.

Despite KSSSA's efforts to curb age cheating and impersonation by using the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS), the number of cheat cases at regional school games remained high. Ngugi emphasized the need for a 'clean' competition in the lakeside city.

Ngugi stated that the association has put measures in place to prevent cheating, citing the recent cases at the regional level. He warned that teams found guilty of cheating will face severe consequences.

Four schools were affected in June: St Peters Mumias from Kakamega, Kibabii of Bungoma, Kwale Girls, and Mutewa Boys of Meru. St Peters Mumias was stripped of their Western region Under-19 football title after an appeal by Maliki Boys, who were declared the winners after both teams fielded ineligible players.

Kwale Girls were also disqualified from this year's national games for a similar offense during the regional level. Debutants Matiliku will represent Eastern region in volleyball boys after winning their appeal against Mutewa for fielding ineligible players.

Ngugi's statement comes after a court ruling two months prior declared the age limit for students at school championships as discriminatory and unconstitutional.

The week-long term two action features football U16, football U19, volleyball, netball, badminton, table tennis, and lawn tennis.
