Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (Kalro) is facing a crisis of leadership, with Director General Eliud Kireger at the center of controversy.

According to sources, Kireger's leadership style has led to a mass exodus of scientists from the organisation, leaving several research projects in limbo.

Staff members have also accused Kireger of mismanaging donor funds, forcing the procurement department to award tenders to firms with which he has a personal interest.

Furthermore, Kireger's deputy, Joseph Mureithi, has emerged as a preferred leader among staff members, who see him as more sober-minded and effective in his role.

As a result of the leadership crisis, Kalro is facing significant challenges, including funding issues and a lack of confidence among staff members.
