On July 24, 2019, Ferdinand Ongeri, the deputy chairman of Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) Kisumu branch, went missing after successful negotiations on nurses' welfare issues at the county government offices.
His body was discovered on Saturday by herdsmen in Kimondi forest, Nandi County, and was positively identified by union officials and his family at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Nandi County Police Commander Samson Ole Kine stated that the body had injuries and no identification documents.
"It seems the man was murdered elsewhere before his body was dumped in the forest," the police chief said.
Mr. Ongeri's disappearance and murder have raised concerns among union officials and villagers in Kimondi, who have expressed worry over the increasing number of bodies being dumped in the forest.
