On July 29, 2019, a shocking incident occurred in Gatamaiyu village, 20km from Naivasha town, where a 48-year-old man brutally murdered his 81-year-old mother using an axe.
The suspect, who had a history of mental health issues and had been in and out of mental institutions, committed the heinous crime in broad daylight.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman was in the kitchen when her son attacked her, and her screams attracted members of the public, but they were unable to intervene.
Geoffrey Waithaka, a neighbour, stated that the suspect had been hostile towards his mother in the days leading up to the incident.
Separately, in Mai Mahiu, a man's body was found on the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road, with signs of strangulation and no identification documents.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed that some suspects had been held in connection with the dumping of bodies in the area, which has become a recurring issue.
