Meru Hosts Kenya Primary and Special Schools National Ball Games Championships

Published on July 29, 2019, Meru County is hosting the Kenya Primary and Special Schools national ball games championships, attracting over 2,000 primary school pupils and 400 officials.

The Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association (KPSSA) national ball games will be staged at various venues across the county, including the Meru Teachers Training College, Meru National Polytechnic, Kanyakine Boys, and Gikumene Girls grounds.

The championships will feature 800 pupils competing in football, handball, volleyball, and netball, as well as special needs teams competing in scrabble, tenniquoit, deaf blind games, showdown, goal ball, and autism children games.

Defending champions Nyanza will face off against Rift Valley in the KPSSA football tournament, while Western and Nairobi are also expected to put up a strong challenge in pool 'B'.

Hosts Eastern, Central, Coast, and Northern will compete in pool 'A', while Nyanza will face off against Eastern, Northern, and Western in the girls' football tournament.

KPSSA chairman Rashid Mbalo expressed excitement about the first edition of the championships, which will feature only pupils below 15 years of age.

He also announced that the country will be sending teams to the East African ball games in Arusha, Tanzania this August.
