Kasarani Member of Parliament Mercy Wanjiku Gakuya drew criticism after allegedly insulting youth in Mwiki Ward, labeling them as 'beggars and idlers' who repeatedly seek financial support from politicians.
The incident occurred during a football tournament launch at MYSA grounds, where Gakuya addressed officials from Kasarani Red Eagles, a team nicknamed the 'TERROR SQUAD.' She warned the club against contacting her office for sponsorship, citing its association with former MP John Njoroge, who maintained strong community ties.
Gakuya claimed she owed Mwiki residents nothing, as they had not voted for her. She specifically targeted two club officials, MUSALETO MUSA VINCENT and MC SHORT, with disparaging remarks in Swahili. One exchange included: 'Nataka kukuambia wewe MUSA na watu wako mwachane na mimi kabisa...'
The MP also threatened to dismantle a social media group called 'KASARANI ON THE LOOKOUT,' which she alleged was linked to criminal activity. She stated, 'Hiyo group yako inaitwa... nitashirikiana na DCI na tutaifunga.'
Residents noted Gakuya has not initiated significant projects in Kasarani or Mwiki, despite the ward's high voter registration. Her constituency performance ratings rank among the lowest in Nairobi County, according to local assessments.
