House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler has stated that President Trump 'richly deserves' impeachment, citing numerous impeachable offenses.
Speaking on CNN's 'State of the Union,' Nadler, a Democrat from New York, said, 'He has done many impeachable offenses. He's violated the law six ways from Sunday.'
However, Nadler emphasized that the question is not whether Trump has committed impeachable offenses, but rather whether there is enough evidence to present to the American people.
Privately, Nadler had signaled to lawmakers and aides that he had become convinced that his panel should proceed with impeachment hearings as expeditiously as possible.
Following the congressional testimony of former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, nearly a dozen lawmakers came out in support of beginning impeachment proceedings, with four legislators from Washington State calling for an inquiry.
Despite this, much of the caucus remains skeptical of the political implications of such a move, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi has urged caution, stating, 'We will proceed when we have what we need to proceed. Not one day sooner.'
