On July 28, 2019, police cracked down on a fuel theft syndicate at the Kenya Pipeline Company in Mlolongo area, arresting three more suspects.

The suspects, who were part of the fuel distribution network, had stolen fuel undetected for months by digging a tunnel from a compound down to the new 20-inch Sh48 billion fuel pipeline from Mombasa to Nairobi.

They ferried the loot in water bowsers labeled 'Clean Water', evading detection by KPC staff who have multiple layers of surveillance on the pipeline.

According to Mlolongo DCIO Vincent Kipkorir, the new suspects were released on bail and bonds, and investigations continue.

'We have also made good leads from them and hopefully next week we can expand our search for the others still at large,' Mr Kipkorir said.
