Rotich and Cherono Dominate South Rift Track and Field Championships

On 27 July 2019, the seventh edition of the South Rift regional Track and Field championships took place at the Narok Stadium, featuring top athletes from the region.

Ferguson Rotich, who had recently won the London Diamond League, showcased his skills in the men's 1500m, clocking an impressive 3:44.5. Bernard Kipkorir came in second with a time of 3:45.6, while Newton Kipkirui closed the podium in 3:46.5.

In the women's 5000m, Eva Cherono took the top honours, clocking 16:30.1. She was followed by Jackline Rotich in second place with a time of 16:35.6, and Emmaculate Anyango in third with 16:44.6.

Other notable performances included Edwin Bett's victory in the men's 10000m with a time of 30:14.6, and Everlyn Chirchir's win in the women's 10000m with a time of 33:11.5.

The South Rift region, comprising of Kericho, Narok, Bomet, Nakuru, Kajiado, and Laikipia Counties, used the championships to select their team for the national championships and trials for the World Championships scheduled for August 20-22 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
