On July 12, 2019, a man in Khayega, Kakamega County, was accused of stealing two chickens from a homestead, sparking a mob attack that ended in his death.
A video of the incident went viral, showing the slain man pleading with his assailant to spare him. The footage also captured one of the assailants slashing the man to death using a machete at a shopping centre in the area.
According to DCI George Kinoti, the four suspects were arrested and are set to face murder charges in connection with the incident. Kinoti emphasized that mob injustice is murder, stating, "There is nothing like mob injustice. They murdered and let those who are engaged in such incidents know their time is coming."
Police tracked the suspects after the video of the incident went viral, and a special team was sent to the area to investigate the incident and take necessary action.
