On July 28, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was arrested after turning himself in to police, following an order by Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

Waititu was wanted in connection with the misappropriation of KSh 588 million in public funds.

He was arrested alongside his wife Susan Wangari Ndung'u and five other suspects.

Waititu's arrest comes after a long investigation into the alleged corruption.
