On July 27, 2019, Flying Squad detectives in Nairobi launched a crackdown on stolen motor vehicles, leading to the arrest of two suspects in Dandora.
The suspects, Joseph Mwaura Gitau and Raphael Mutungi Mwendwa, were arrested after detectives recovered a Toyota Wish registration number KBQ 613T, which was found to have a different chassis number than the one on the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the original registration number of the vehicle was KBR 618D, which had been reported stolen at Zimmerman in Kasarani.
This is not the first time the Flying Squad has busted a car theft syndicate in Nairobi. In April, four suspects were arrested in possession of a car stolen from Central Police station.
According to police, the suspects had already changed the details of the stolen vehicle and were planning to sell it.
Upon searching the physical chassis number, it revealed that the original registration number was KBR 618D which was reported stolen at #Zimmerman in Kasarani.
