Kim Kardashian Advocates for Criminal Justice Reform ¶
On July 25, 2019, reality star Kim Kardashian visited a jail in Washington, D.C. to meet with inmates and advocate for criminal justice reform.
Accompanied by Dr. Mark Howard, a Georgetown professor, Kim spent time with the inmates and even took selfies with them. The visit was part of her efforts to secure freedom for Americans who she believes have been wronged by the justice system.
Kim's visit was also documented for an upcoming documentary on Oxygen, which will center on her efforts to reform the justice system. The documentary is set to air in the coming months.
Kim's push for criminal justice reform is not new. In June 2018, she helped release inmate Alice Johnson after collaborating with CNN commentator Van Jones and attorney Jessica Jackson. She has also visited San Quentin State Prison and sent money to a campaign to release 17 federal inmates facing life sentences for low-level drug offenses.
Kim's decision to advocate for criminal justice reform was revealed in an interview with Vogue, where she stated, 'It's never one person who gets things done; it's always a collective of people, and I've always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society.'
Kim's efforts have been met with support from fans and others in the community. Many have praised her for using her platform to bring attention to the issue of criminal justice reform.
