On July 26, 2019, the third edition of the International Africa Laugh Festival kicked off at the KICC in Nairobi, featuring more than 10 acts from across the continent.

Organized by veteran comedian Churchill and sponsored by NMG, the festival aimed to bring top comedians from Africa to showcase their art and interact with the local audience.

Speaking before the acts took to the stage, Churchill explained that the Laugh Festival was a unique experience compared to his popular Churchill Show.

“In Laugh Festival, we get to bring top comedians from across Africa to showcase their art here and also interact with us and share experiences. It’s an international platform on a local stage,” Churchill said.

Churchill also addressed the challenge of getting renowned South African comedian Trevoh Noah to headline the Laugh Festival, promising his fans that he would soon bring the internationally renowned comedian to Nairobi.

Kenya was well-represented by comedians including Prof Hamo, The Ribs Crackers, Sleepy David, MC Jessy, MCA Tricky, and France-based Pasha, who left the packed auditorium in stitches.

However, the UK-based Njambi McGrather faced a disappointing reception, with some audience members almost booing her off the stage before Churchill intervened to save her the embarrassment.
