Published on July 28, 2019, the Coast region has been struggling to shine in racquet games in recent years.

However, they are now looking to change this trend when the national secondary schools term two games kick off in Kisumu on Tuesday.

Coast Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary Omar Munga expressed confidence in the region's teams, saying they are ready to compete and win medals.

“We want to be part of the winners in Kisumu and get medals. It's time we change the trend,” Munga said.

The region will be competing in lawn tennis, table tennis, and badminton, with Kisumu Day hosting lawn tennis, Lions High School hosting badminton, and table tennis being held at Kisumu Boys.

Despite missing their top table tennis player Parita Shah, who is out of the country, the region will bank on Rose Karembo and Yvonne Maria to bring home medals.

The boys' team in table tennis will be led by Alisger Jafferji, while Milliana Nzisa and Fatma Abdi will anchor girls' lawn tennis, and Kennedy Ngolya and Evans Nduku will spearhead the boys' lawn tennis team.

Aasiya Kareem and Susan Adhiambo will shoulder the region's medal-winning hopes in badminton, while Imran Kareem and Mwavadu Mwero will fly the boys' badminton flag.
