Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has been criticized for her vague ideas on how to pay for her proposed tax cuts and single-payer health care system.
According to her campaign advisor, Mr. Gleckman, Harris's plan to roll back provisions of the 2017 tax cut bill is unclear, with no specific provisions identified. The cost of her plan, assessed by the Tax Policy Center, is estimated to be almost $3 trillion over a decade.
As for raising taxes for higher-income individuals, Harris has not specified how she would do so. Her reluctance to provide clear answers has led some to question her commitment to her policy proposals.
On single-payer health care, Harris has endorsed legislation written by Senator Bernie Sanders, but has distanced herself from core elements of the plan. In a recent interview, she stated that she supports 'Medicare for All,' but opposes the middle-class taxes currently envisioned as a funding mechanism.
When asked about the transition to a single-payer system, Harris emphasized the need for more planning and coordination. 'This thing sounds great,' she said, 'but how are we going to actually get there?'
Despite her ambiguous stance on key issues, Harris's allies remain confident in her ability to navigate complex policy debates.
