On July 27, 2019, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) ordered Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to turn himself in for a Sh588 million graft probe.

Waititu, who is wanted in connection with the probe, was ordered to present himself at the commission's headquarters in Nairobi.

According to EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, Waititu and four other suspects could not be traced at their known residences.

However, three suspects - Charles Mbuthia Chege, Joyce Ngina Musyoka, and Simon Kabacho Kangethe - were arrested early Saturday morning.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had ordered for Waititu's arrest and nine others to face charges related to the Sh588 million irregular tender.

The EACC has been investigating allegations of irregular procurement of a tender for the upgrading of various gravel roads to bituminous surface in Kiambu County, awarded to M/s Testimony Enterprises Ltd worth Sh588 million during the 2017/2018 financial year.

It is alleged that the directors of M/s Testimony Enterprises were close associates of the governor and had already been paid Sh147.3 million.

The firm was also awarded several other contracts amounting to over Sh74 million, with Sh25.6 million remitted to entities associated with the governor once the funds were paid from Kiambu county government.

The suspects will face charges including conflict of interest, abuse of office, and money laundering.
