Published on July 27, 2019, the 20th stage of the Tour de France was in jeopardy due to extreme weather conditions.
Organisers had already reduced the stage from 130km to 59km due to safety concerns, following hailstorms and a landslide on the previous day.
However, the weather continued to deteriorate overnight, with part of the publicity caravan unable to drive up to the finish line and instead opting to drive a loop around Albertville.
Colombian Egan Bernal held the overall lead, with France's Julian Alaphilippe and defending champion Geraint Thomas in second and third place, respectively.
Despite the challenges, the stage was ultimately completed, with the riders facing treacherous conditions.
