On July 27, 2019, Pastor Anthony Mutua Mwangangi, a Kenyan preacher, was arraigned in court for allegedly defrauding two job seekers of over Sh148,000.
According to the charges, Pastor Mwangangi demanded Sh148,000 from two Kenyans with the promise of securing them employment abroad.
He was charged with fraud before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot.
On diverse dates between December 19th, 2019 and February 1st, 2019, Pastor Mwangangi allegedly obtained Sh117,000 from Ibrahim Yakub by pretending he was in a position to secure Mr. Yakub a job placement as a driver in Kuwait.
He also faced a second count of obtaining Sh31,000 from Hadija Musa Mohammed by falsely pretending he was in a position to secure her employment as a security guard in the Middle East country.
When arraigned, Pastor Mwangangi pleaded not guilty to the charges, stating that he is a pastor who is anointed by God and incapable of deceitful behavior.
He was freed on a cash bail of Sh200,000, and the case will be heard on September 6th, 2019.
