On July 27, 2019, a lorry truck transporting sugar from Somalia was set ablaze by Kenyan defense forces near the porous border with Kenya.
Local residents claimed the driver was wounded in the incident, which has left the motive behind the attack unclear.
The incident occurred just days after Al-Shabaab carried out an attack in the Northeast region of Kenya, targeting Kenyan police officers patrolling the border.
Kenya has experienced deadly attacks since it sent combat forces to Somalia in 2011 to fight the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab, which was blamed for a series of kidnappings and killings.
