As the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for his arrest on July 26, 2019, over the irregular award of tenders worth Sh588 million, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's whereabouts remain unknown nearly 24 hours later.
Waititu's disappearance is not the only mystery surrounding the case. His wife, Susan Wangari, and Mr. Luka Mwangi Waihenya are also missing, and detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have been unable to find them.
“His whereabouts are still unclear as it is proving futile to get hold of him and his wife,” an EACC official told Nairobi News in confidence.
The EACC official stated that the trio could not be traced at their known residences, raising concerns about their safety and whereabouts.
Waititu's last public appearance was on Thursday, July 25, 2019, when he joined President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President Dr. William Ruto, and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the opening of the Bidco Industrial Park in Ruiru.
Already, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the scandal, including Charles Mbuthia Chege, Joyce Ngina Musyoka, and Simon Kabacho Kangethe.
The DPP wants Waititu arrested over the award of a tender for the upgrading of various roads in the county, which was allegedly awarded to Testimony Enterprise Limited, a company owned by his close relatives.
According to the DPP, Sh147,274,055.39 was irregularly paid to the company, sparking concerns about corruption and abuse of power.
