On July 27, 2019, Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party, publicly criticized ODM rebels who have defied the party's leadership and aligned themselves with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 general elections.

According to Raila, the ODM party has warned its members against participating in the 2022 presidential elections under the leadership of William Ruto.

Raila Odinga has advised ODM rebels who have defied the party's leadership to resign and rejoin the party through Jubilee.

He cited his own example, where he resigned from Ford Kenya after a disagreement with the party's leadership and went on to win the election under a different party.

ODM's National Chairman, John Mbadi, had earlier warned the rebels against going against the party's constitution and the law, stating that they were no longer members of the party.

The party's National Executive Committee has recommended the expulsion of Aisha Jumwa and Suleiman Dori, who have been given a one-week ultimatum to respond to the party's letter.
