On July 27, 2019, a disturbing case came to light in West Pokot County, where a father was charged with sodomizing his three-year-old son.
According to the charges, on May 16, 2019, at around 3am in Riwo location, the suspect allegedly committed the heinous act, leaving his son with severe injuries, including burns on the thigh and cuts on his private parts.
The child's grandmother testified in court, stating that neighbors had informed her of the incident after the accused had a disagreement with his wife, who had left to live alone at Makutano Township.
She recounted finding the child lying naked with his body swollen and bruised, and that he was rushed to Kacheliba Police Station and later admitted to Kacheliba Sub County Hospital for two weeks.
Medical records revealed that the child was bruised, with clothes burnt and stained with blood, and that X-ray results showed a fracture on the right clavicle, a swollen neck, and a cut on his private parts.
The anal muscle was damaged, and blood was mixed with stool, indicating evidence of sodomy, according to Solomon Tukei, a clinical officer at Kacheliba Sub County hospital.
The accused remains in custody at Kapenguria police station, awaiting a ruling on August 31.
