On July 27, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa, where an officer based at the Air Traffic Control Tower took their own life by jumping from the control tower.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed that the family of the deceased has been informed, and a thorough investigation is underway in collaboration with relevant authorities.

According to KCAA Director General Gilbert, counselling sessions have been initiated for the staff who were on duty with the deceased and those affected, to help them cope with the loss and grief.

Statistics show that cases of suicide in the country have been on the rise, with psychologists attributing this to societal factors such as mental illness, personality disorders, drug addiction, relationship problems, and financial issues.

Organizations focused on suicide prevention continue to intensify their campaigns, offering emotional support to those in distress and raising awareness about the issue within communities.
