Waititu Corruption Scandal: DPP Orders Arrest of Governor Ferdinand Waititu

Published on July 26, 2019

Kenya's Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has ordered the arrest of Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari over corruption allegations.

According to the DPP, Waititu is accused of misusing public funds by awarding a contract worth KSh 588,198,328 to M/S Testimony Enterprises Ltd without following the proper procedure.

The company, which is allegedly a friend of the governor, was awarded a contract to supply goods worth KSh 74,216,444, which have already been paid.

Additionally, the DPP claims that the company was also awarded a contract to supply goods worth KSh 147,274,055, which is part of the funds meant for road construction projects in Kiambu County in the 2017/2018 financial year.

It is alleged that the funds were misused and that the company was awarded the contracts without following the proper procedure.

Waititu is also accused of using his office and position to acquire property that is not rightfully his, including a hotel owned by his wife and himself.

Other individuals who have been charged include six county officials, three directors of Testimony Enterprises Ltd, the company itself, Saika Two Estate Developers, and Bienventure Delta Hotel.

Waititu's arrest is a significant development in the ongoing corruption scandal in Kenya, and it is expected that he will face charges of abuse of office and acquisition of property that is not rightfully his.
