On July 26, 2019, Nairobi was in mourning as news of the death of Ken Okoth, a 41-year-old Member of Parliament, spread rapidly.

Okoth had been battling colon cancer for a long time and had sought treatment in Paris, France, where he stayed for nearly five months.

He returned to Kenya two weeks prior to his death but fell ill on Thursday and was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital.

Despite efforts to save him, Okoth's health deteriorated, and he was placed on life support in the Intensive Care Unit.

His family made the difficult decision to switch off the life support machine, a request that Okoth had communicated to them before his death.

As news of his passing spread, mourners flocked to the Lee Funeral Home, despite the family's request for privacy and the announcement that there would be no public viewing of the body.

A heavy police presence was deployed around the area to maintain order, but the sounds of wailing and screaming mourners filled the air.
