Kibra MP Ken Okoth Dies of Cancer at 41

Ken Okoth, the 41-year-old Kibra Member of Parliament, has died of cancer. He had been battling Stage 4 colon cancer and had sought treatment in France.

Okoth's family made the announcement at a press conference on Friday at the Nairobi Hospital, where he had been on life support after his condition worsened.

According to his brother, Imran Okoth, who is the family spokesman, Ken Okoth had been on and off medication and was brought to the hospital on Thursday morning. He passed away an hour later.

The family has requested for privacy as they retreat to make funeral arrangements, and there will be no public viewing at the Lee Funeral Home.

Further announcements are expected from tomorrow, the spokesman said.

Okoth had been open about his cancer battle, sharing his experiences on social media and even introducing a Bill to decriminalize the growth and use of cannabis, also known as marijuana, last year.

He returned from France early this month to a rousing welcome from Kenyans who had rallied behind him, lauding him for his bravery in fighting cancer.
