On July 24, 2019, Daniel Arimba Arioba, a constable from Kamukunji Police Station, was arrested for assaulting two officers at the National Treasury offices. He was later charged with extortion.
According to the allegations, Arioba, together with Oliver Tambo, who is still at large, extorted Ksh. 200,000 from Mohammed Kiptirim arap Cheboi over a forged appointment letter linked to the African Disaster Response and Virus Research Foundation.
Arioba was also charged with another count of demanding Ksh. 100,000 from Peter Oyalo Mose with menace.
He allegedly threatened Mose to charge him with an offence of forging an appointment letter.
On July 26, 2019, Arioba was presented before Milimani Court Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot, who denied all the charges.
Arioba pleaded for affordable cash bail, citing his monthly salary of Ksh. 20,000. The Magistrate released him on a Ksh. 40,000 cash bail.
