NSE Weekly Turnover Inches Up to Sh2.69 Billion

The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) saw a significant increase in its weekly turnover, rising to Sh2.69 billion for the week ended July 26, 2019.

Market turnover on the day stood at Sh346 million, a substantial increase from the previous session's Sh1 billion. The number of shares traded also saw a notable decrease, standing at 13 million against 28 million the previous day.

On the other hand, the Bond Market turnover saw a decline, decreasing to a weekly value of Sh16 billion compared to Sh23.6 billion the previous session.

Banks and Safaricom continued to dominate bourse trading, jointly contributing 75.97% to the week's trading. Banks contributed Sh1 billion, accounting for 39.77% of the week's traded value, while Safaricom transacted 35 million shares valued at Sh976 million.

The giant telco's weekly trading changed hands at between Sh27.20 and Sh28, representing 36.20% of the week's traded value.

Listed Companies Performance

KCB Group touched a high of Sh40 and a low of Sh39.60, with shares worth Sh348 million transacted.

Equity Group Holdings was down 0.25% to Sh40.35, with 8.3 million shares worth Sh340 million moved.

Barclays Bank edged up 1.46% to Sh10.45, with shares worth Sh170 million realized.

KenGen actively moved 5.5 million shares valued at Sh33.5 million, trading between Sh5.98 and Sh6.50.

Centum traded 1 million shares valued at Sh34 million, changing hands at between Sh32.50 and Sh33.50.

E.A Breweries closed the week 2.26% higher to Sh203.25, moving 1.9 million shares valued at Sh397 million.

Indices saw a decline, with the All Share Index (NASI) shedding 0.82 points to stand at 149.00, the NSE 20 share index down 37.73 points or 1.40% to stand at 2651.80, and the NSE 25 Share index ending 7.36 points lower to settle at 3606.21.

NSE Futures Trading

At the derivatives market, three single stock future contracts in Safaricom & E.A Breweries expiring in September 2019 were transacted, with the overall futures trading valued at Sh75,000 at a price of Sh28.10 and Sh197 in the day's trading.

This is against a price of Sh27.60 and Sh203.25 posted by both securities in the spot market.
