On July 26, 2019, a horrific incident occurred in Gikomora Village, Maragua Sub-County, where Felister Njoki, a local resident, was severely hacked by her brother-in-law, Pastor Patrick Mungai.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack happened after a domestic row between the two, with Mungai allegedly informing one of his sons that he would kill his mother and her child upon arrival. The son alerted his mother, prompting her to flee their home before Mungai arrived.

When Mungai woke up, he armed himself with a panga and descended on Njoki, slashing her in the neck, back, hands, and head. A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described the scene: "The lady was slashed in the neck, back, hands, and the head. By the time we arrived at the scene, we found her lying in a pool of blood. We could not believe the pastor could do such a thing."

Njoki was taken to Maragua Level 4 Hospital, where she was admitted in an unconscious state. Dr. James Gathera, a doctor at the hospital, stated that the woman had deep cuts in various parts of her body and was being monitored for her response to medication.

The police launched a manhunt to apprehend the pastor, who had vanished after the crime. The incident has left the community in shock, with many expressing concern for Njoki's well-being.
