Published on July 26, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a statement in Ruiru, Kiambu County, during the opening of the Sh20 billion Bidco Industrial Park.

At the event, Kenyatta emphasized that only God and the Kenyan voters have the power to choose Kenya's next president, stating that leadership is given to man by God.

He urged leaders to refrain from engaging in succession politics and focus on serving the Kenyan people, saying, 'As leaders, we should strive to ensure that we have improved the welfare of the Kenyan people. We shouldn’t be engaging in politics all the times.'

Contrary to his November 2018 sentiments, where he hinted at having a preferred candidate for the 2022 presidential election, Kenyatta's latest remarks suggest a shift in tone, with him now saying, 'Me, I don’t mind who that person will be.'
