Elgeyo Marakwet Leaders Urge Government to Complete Arror and Kimwarer Dams

On July 25, 2019, leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet County in Kenya gathered in Kerio Valley to express their support for the completion of the Arror and Kimwarer dams.

Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who is also a lawyer representing one of the suspects in the corruption case, emphasized that the county's residents have the right to development projects like other Kenyans.

He stated that the ongoing corruption cases in Nairobi should not hinder the development of the county.

"It will not be right for the residents of Elgeyo Marakwet to be denied development projects because of their alleged involvement in the corruption case," Senator Murkomen said.

He was joined by Governor John Lonyangapuo of Pokot West and Tiaty MP William Kamket, who also expressed their support for the dams.

According to Governor Lonyangapuo, the dams are crucial for the residents of the area and should not be stopped due to the ongoing corruption cases.

"The projects should continue because they have great importance for the residents. The ongoing investigation into the misuse of funds allocated for the dams should not affect the projects," Governor Lonyangapuo said.

MP William Kamket also emphasized the importance of the dams, stating that they are the largest projects to be launched in the area and should not be stopped.

"Anyone involved in the corruption case should be held accountable, but we cannot afford to lose these projects. They are unique and crucial for the residents," MP Kamket said.
