On July 15, 2019, the parents of a five-year-old girl reported to the authorities that their daughter had been defiled by a school bus conductor at Mount Sinai Primary School in Likoni, Kwale county.

The girl had been riding the bus home from school when the alleged incident occurred. Three days later, her parents noticed a change in her behavior and upon inquiry, she revealed that she was experiencing pain in her private parts.

According to the girl's parents, she identified her attacker by name because she uses the bus to and from school daily. A medical examination at Likoni District Hospital revealed a rupture of the hymen, apparently caused by some form of external penetration.

The family reported the matter under OB number 27/07/2019 before taking the girl for medical examination. Likoni Directorate of Criminal Investigation officer Charles Onyango confirmed that detectives have launched an investigation into the incident.

However, the school's manager, Njuguna Wakaba, has denied allegations of a cover-up, stating that the matter is with the police and that he has been away and is yet to be properly briefed on the matter.
