On July 26, 2019, a meeting between Gusii MPs from the William Ruto and Fred Matiang'i factions nearly degenerated into chaos in Matiang'i's office.

The meeting, which was called to discuss the implementation of Uhuru Kenyatta's four agendas in their respective constituencies and counties, turned sour when the two groups' political differences came to the fore.

According to a source, the Matiang'i group was uncomfortable with the Ruto group, which has been critical of Matiang'i and now sought services from him.

Joash Nyamoko, the chairman of the Gusii MPs caucus, denied rumors of a physical altercation between two of his colleagues, saying the meeting was productive and focused on development issues.

However, just two days after the meeting, seven MPs backing Ruto asked Matiang'i to resign if he wanted to venture into politics, citing his alleged attempts to undermine Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

The MPs, including Joash Nyamoko, Vincent Kemosi, Shadrack Mose, Sylvanus Osoro, Innocent Obiri, Oloo Oyioka, and Alpha Miruka, also asked senior civil servants from the community to stay out of area politics.
