On July 26, 2019, a music deal between Akothee and Diamond Platnumz made headlines across East Africa and beyond.

The two celebrity giants collaborated on the hit song 'Sweet Love', which received widespread acclaim.

However, soon after the release of the song, fans speculated that Akothee must have invested a significant amount of money to secure the collaboration.

But in a surprising twist, Akothee revealed that she did not pay Diamond Platnumz for the collaboration.

Speaking to K24's Eric Njoka, Akothee clarified that the collaboration was not about the money, but about the passion and drive of the artist.

She stated, 'What is 2 million, that's peanuts... I'm not saying no but I'm not saying yes... We don't have to talk about prices, if the song was not good then if we had pay we would ask for our money back...'

Akothee reiterated the same in an interview with Mpasho, emphasizing that it's not all about the money but whether the artist has the drive and passion.

She said, 'Akothee hakunilipa. Tulifanya tu nyimbo kwa sababu ni mtu ambaye ana moyo wa kufanya kitu...'

The exact amount Akothee invested in the collaboration remains a mystery, but one thing is clear - the collaboration was a success, and 'Sweet Love' remains a hit to this day.
