July 26, 2019 - The Coast Water Board is embroiled in a scandal involving its CEO, Joseph Kimutai, who has been accused of sexual harassment and corruption.
According to sources, Kimutai was thrown into confusion following a story published by Weekly Citizen that exposed graft among his top managers, who allegedly forced contractors to part with bribes before being awarded lucrative tenders.
Kimutai, who joined the board late last year, is accused of being out to victimize those in procurement and accounts departments.
The CEO's move to demand answers from those implicated in the scandals has not been well-received, with tempers flaring in his office when he summoned one of the managers and started abusing him.
Among those issued with letters to show cause why they should not be sacked include the board's chief engineer, Daniel Charo, who does not get on well with Kimutai.
Charo is being pushed by locals to be named CEO, and Kimutai wants him sacked using his closeness with the then Water CS, Simon Chelugui.
