Tragedy has struck the world of professional boxing for the second time in a week, with the death of 23-year-old Argentinian fighter Hugo Alfredo 'Dinamita' Santillan on Thursday.

Santillan's death comes just days after Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died from injuries sustained during a fight on July 23, 2019. Dadashev, 28, was placed in a medically induced coma after the fight but died on July 24, 2019.

Santillan, a super lightweight, was fighting against Uruguay's Eduardo Javier Abreu in Buenos Aires on July 24, 2019, when he suffered a nosebleed in the fourth round. Despite finishing the fight, he fainted after the result was announced and was taken to hospital.

According to Dr. Graciela Olocco of Hospital Agudos San Felipe, Santillan suffered successive kidney failure and never regained consciousness. He underwent surgery for a clot on the brain but died after a cardiac arrest at 12:35 am local time on Thursday.

Santillan was the son of another professional boxer and had a record of 19 wins, six losses, and two draws going into the fight.
