On July 25, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened a Sh20 billion Bidco Industrial Park in Ruiru, Kiambu County, alongside Deputy President William Ruto and Bidco Africa chairman Vimal Shah.
During the event, President Kenyatta made a statement that has been interpreted as a stinging rebuke to Deputy President Ruto, who has been crisscrossing the country popularizing his bid for the presidency.
"Uchaguzi utakuja na Mungu ndiye hupeana uongozi. Tufanye kazi (God knows who will be elected. It is time to work)," President Kenyatta said.
His statement has been seen as a hint that he may not back his deputy in the 2022 General Election, despite a 2013 pledge to support him.
Deputy President Ruto's camp has been getting impatient with President Kenyatta for his lack of clarity on who he will support, with some leaders calling for him to resign.
